Video production for architecture and planning practices in Berlin

Nowhere in Germany do so many architecture practices sit so close together as in Berlin. Competition for commissions is hard, competition for good people harder. Visibility here is not a luxury but a precondition.

A city rebuilding itself

Behind the scenes of a Mastlicht Media film production

Berlin barely builds on open land any more. The work is conversion, extension, change of use and refurbishment in existing fabric, often listed and almost always with people still living there. That is demanding design work nobody can see in the finished picture. Which is exactly why the route there is worth showing.

Then there is the client structure. State-owned housing companies, districts and public bodies award through procedures in which references count. And international investors decide on projects they rarely visit. Both groups are reached faster with images than with brochures.

What we produce for Berlin practices

Concept, shoot, edit, grade and sound all happen in house. One point of contact, no chain.

Practice portrait

Shows attitude and working method rather than a project list. In a city full of good practices, that is the difference.

Retrofit documentation

From strip-out to handover. It makes visible what disappears behind walls and ceilings once the job is done.

Recruiting film

Berlin attracts young planners and loses them just as fast. A film in which the team speaks for itself filters better than any advert.

Photography and competition material

From the same shooting day. For submissions, website and press, in German and English.

What transfers

Our work for the building sector was made in Hesse. We do not claim a Berlin reference. What transfers is the type of task: design work from concept to handover, services behind the walls, and the trades that build both.

What we stand for

  • Honest and transparent communication
  • Creative media campaigns from a single source
  • A precise balance between creativity, real-world use and realistic economics

What sets us apart

Cinema quality. Costed with a clear head.

Film industry standard meets a lean, vertically integrated production setup. That is what makes quality affordable. What others outsource at a premium has long been part of our team. It saves time, it saves money, and you can see it in the result.

Stories that stick.

Cinematic DNA in short formats. We condense messages down to what matters. Precise, emotionally charged and built on real narrative craft. Advertising that isn’t just watched, but felt.

From Gen Z. For every audience.

We speak today’s visual language – fluently and by conviction. From elaborate corporate films through lean video productions to high-energy content for social media, we know exactly what earns attention. Made by a young team that grew up with the “cloud”. Effective for every audience, every format, every platform.

QUALITY and SERVICE are written in capitals here.

No project is finished until both we and our clients are happy with it. That is why you will find no small print limiting the number of revisions. We are convinced that clear, transparent communication, a structured briefing and the shared ambition to create something lasting and convincing make clauses like that unnecessary.

Services at a glance

Our focus is outstanding audio-visual film, video and photo production for the construction, architecture and building services (MEP) sector. But we think beyond the camera. Through our established network of experts and partners we open up additional touchpoints for your company: from corporate websites and digital project presentations through trade fair appearances and print to targeted LinkedIn marketing for the construction industry. Together we work out which channels and formats reach your clients, investors and future specialists most effectively – and we bring the right specialists to the table to deliver the project to our quality standard.

Travel and access

Berlin is about five hours from Hanau. We travel the evening before, usually by train. In the inner city a vehicle is more burden than help. What we need we carry; anything else we hire locally.

The shooting day starts with what takes longest here: access. We need to know early who briefs, unlocks and decides on site. For filming from public streets we apply for the district permit. Nothing in this city can be had at short notice.

Do we need a permit to film from the street?

As soon as we occupy pavement or roadway with a tripod, yes. That runs through the district office and needs lead time. Handheld and without a setup, much is permit-free. During planning we tell you which viewpoint falls into which category.

Our investors are not based in Germany. Can we get the material in English?

Yes, out of the same production. We plan bilingually from the start: English subtitles or a separate voice version, graphics in both languages. Retrofitting it later costs more and usually looks retrofitted.

We are working for a state-owned housing company. What about usage rights?

We settle those in writing before the shoot, because public clients require it anyway. You receive the rights for the agreed channels without a time limit. What we may show ourselves is fixed in the same document.

What does a production in Berlin cost?

The large majority of our projects sit in the mid four-figure to low five-figure range. What drives it is shooting days and the number of formats. Travel appears as its own line in the quote. We give you the range in the first conversation.

Maximilian Priess

Managing Director and Director

Cinema has fascinated us since childhood – not just as a medium, but as a total work of art. The interplay of every craft involved, the precision in the detail, the passion behind every frame: those are exactly the values we took as the foundation of Mastlicht Media, and we keep building on them every day. Seeing how this medium, combined with our craft, creates lasting value for our clients is what excites me anew every single day.
